Talking to an Angel, written 11-29-2005

Talking to an Angel

Written 11-29-05 by Elizabeth Diehl a friend

That treacherous morning the 26th of October
This is one day we will never get over.
That day God took your life into His own hands.
For you my dear he had different plans.
That morning there was a fatal crash
Your life instantly taken from you in a flash.
The news of your death came by surprise.
The thing I knew tears filled my eyes.
There the tears were flowing down my cheek.
At that same moment I felt very weak.
An hour had passed tears still streaming down my face.
My best friend Nicole was there for me to embrace.
Rain poured down the day that you died.
That is the day that every Angel had cried.
Tears of God’s happiness fell from the sky.
They were also tears of my mourning as I wondered why.
Why did he take this wonderful soul?
I know why now…you’re a treasure to behold.
It’s been a while now since you’ve been gone.
But you’re not gone at all you’ve been with us all along.
No words to explain how many lives you’ve touched
Or how many people could love you so much.
There I was at this viewing of yours
Seeing about 200 people in line to get through the doors.
There you were lying in your new bed.
It broke my heart to see such a young girl lying there dead.
You had your soccer team jersey on in which you had played.
Your hair looked the same there in those pigtailed braids.
Everything looked normal but there was no smile.
That’s something I didn’t get over for a very long while.
There was always a smile on your beautiful face.
Now there’s a smile on ours because you’re in a safer place.
The priest at the funeral said that one hour in Heaven is forty years on Earth.
Along with your death there came a new birth.
A new birth of closer friendship of all that could see
Exactly how much we lost of Oktober 26 2003.
We all pray that Sammy will be okay.
But I know that you’re guiding her every step of the way.
Janet my dear Heaven awaits.
Open and enter those pearly white gates.
Go play soccer with the Angels above.
Spread your wings and fly with the rest
Knowing that you lived your life to the best.
This is not goodbye just see you again.
I’ll see you again sometime I just don’t know when.
I’ll try real hard to keep a good attitude.
So with all of this said I shall conclude.
Up in Heaven the Angels are waiting for you.
So now there’s only one thing left to do.
Grab Mrs. Gizzi’s hand and join the Heavenly party.
Rest in peace Beautiful Angel.
I love you forever Janet Marie Hardy.

The Scholarship Speech

The following speech has been read at each Awards Ceremony, beginning in 2004.

This scholarship represents two things:  the generosity of a community and the life of my daughter.  Without the help of the community, including the Maryland State Police, Harford Co. Sheriffs Office, Aberdeen Police, Local Volunteer Fire Company's and local teens this scholarship would not have been possible.  But it is the life of my daughter, Janet Hardy, that has brought me here, a life that ended too soon on October 26, 2003.

Janet believed in the future.  She believed there was nothing she couldn't accomplish if she tried.  Her goal to play High School soccer was one of her greatest personal accomplishments, meanwhile maintaining a 4.0 GPA.  She also believed in helping others, which is what she was doing that early Sunday morning, the morning a drunk driver took her life.  She had hopes and dreams that I will never see come true, including her dream of going to college.

The Janet Hardy Memorial Scholarship is being presented to four students in Harford and Cecil County this year.  Each student was selected based on their involvement in the community, involvement in school, participation in sports and plans for the future.  Through this scholarship, I am able to pass on a legacy of determination and hope.  I will never send my Janet to college, but I can help another child to follow their dreams.

To the recipient, I ask you to be responsible in your choices as you enter college life.  This scholarship honors the memory of my Janet who was killed by a drunk driver.  There is no excuse for drinking and driving.  In only an instant, lives can be changed forever.  College life will challenge your values, please make the right choices.

Finally, I wish all of you success in your future and that your hopes and dreams are achieved to the fullest.  In a world full of uncertainty, at least there are hopes and dreams.

And the recipient is....

When I Finally Come to Glory

When I Finally Come to Glory

I need a favor, Blessed Mother
Could you help me with this please?
It's concerning your son, Jesus
So I'm praying on my knees

When I finally come to Glory
And I see the Promised Land,
I envision Jesus smiling,
Reaching out His loving hand.

He will be so glad to see me
When I finally arrive,
For I proclaim His name on earth
Each day that I'm alive.

He will want to keep His promise
Bring me straight to Father God
And to the Holy Spirit
But Oh Mother...this is hard.

For my child will be there cheering
As I come through Heaven's Gate
And I know you know my heart's desire
And How Long I've Had to Wait!

I'm afraid that when I see my child
I'll forget the protocol,
And run to hold her in my arms,
Bypassing One and All!

We will smile and laugh together
And dance around with glee,
To touch her curls, and kiss her face
Is what Heaven means to me.

So will you, Blessed Mother
Please explain me to your Son?
Because you have a mother's heart
You KNOW to whom I'll run.

Make it right with the Creator
and the Blessed Trinity
I'm afraid I'll fly right past Them
When my precious child I see.

I don't want to shock the Angels
Or to scandalize the Saints,
Or to have my Day of Glory
Be the day all Heaven faints!

I have borne what God has sent me,
Praised and thanked Him through lifes worst,
And, if Heaven is my just reward,
Let me see my baby FIRST.
